At Christ Church, we enthusiastically welcome children and youth remembering the words of Our Lord: ”Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”
We have an exciting and well-planned program to engage our children and youth in worship, education, outreach, and fun activities. To learn more or enroll in any of these activities, please contact the parish office at 410-745-9076, or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Church School (Sunday)
9:15 – 10 AM during the program year, September – May
Our Sunday morning church school provides an atmosphere of Christian nurturing where our children learn about Jesus, the customs and teachings of Christian life and our Episcopal traditions. Our curriculum varies according to the age of the class. We use Godly Play, a Montessori-based program for ages 3 to 6, and Building Faith Brick-by-Brick for our 7 to 11 year old children. All children and adult volunteers are welcome to share in our children’s Christian formation. All Teachers are required to have “Safeguarding God’s Children” certification.
Acolytes (Grades 4 and Up) are ministers who assist with the liturgy and are scheduled to serve on Sunday mornings at 10:15 AM (9:30 AM during the summer) and for special services as crucifer; gospel book bearer; and torch bearers. Being an acolyte is a very public ministry and is an exciting and meaningful way to offer your time to the church and to God. Young people in 4th grade or at least 9 years old interested in becoming an acolyte, please contact the parish office.
Christ Church St. Michaels always welcomes the littlest Christians as part of our worship services. However, we also offer childcare for infants and young children at our parish hall. Our childcare providers have been trained in Safeguarding God’s Children and can text you if you are needed back at the nursery room. The nursery provides a warm and safe environment for infants and children age three and younger. The nursery is staffed from 9 AM to 11:30 on Sundays. Typically, parents attending the 9:30 AM service retrieve their children in time to receive Holy Communion.
Young people age fourteen or older who are interested in learning more about making a mature affirmation of their faith and commitment to the church are welcome to attend our confirmation classes. For more information, please contact the parish office.
Youth Eucharistic Ministers, Readers and Ushers
Some of our older children and youth serve as Eucharistic ministers, administering the chalice from the altar rail. Others enjoy reading the lessons and prayers during the service of Holy Eucharist or Evensong and serving as Ushers with an adult partner. or, as Eucharistic ministers, administering the chalice from the altar rail. Readers can be any age as long as they are strong readers. Eucharistic ministers need to be age 14 and over.
